The Alberta Envirothon is a high school competition where teams compete on their knowledge of environmental science and natural resources through a series of field station and written tests that put their teamwork and problem solving skills to the test, and an oral presentation where teams present their solution to a complex environmental issue.
The competition scoring is based on the following components:
Field Station Tests:
1. Aquatic Ecology – 100 points
2. Forestry – 100 points
3. Soils and Land Use – 100 points
4. Wildlife – 100 points
5. Current Issue – 100 points
6. Based on a scenario provided relating to the current issue – 200 points
Final team placements will be determined by adding the 5 station test scores to the final oral presentation score. Awards are provided to teams with the top three highest scores out of 700 total points.
