Envirothon is North America's largest high school environmental education competition. It is an effective educational tool, capable of supplementing environmental education inside and outside the classroom, and provides  career insight and options in environmental and natural resource management. Since its inception, over 10 million people have participated across North America and China with 50,000 people from 4,000 high schools competing annually.

The purpose of the Alberta Envirothon is to develop knowledgeable, skilled and dedicated citizens who are enabled to solve complex environmental issues, act as stewards of the environment and have a desire to learn more about the environment and natural resources management.
