Alberta Envirothon proudly announces its selection as the host for the 2025 NCF-Envirothon, the esteemed international environmental education competition. Over 50 high-school teams from Canada, the United States, China, and Singapore will convene for this prestigious event, marking the inaugural occasion that Alberta has welcomed the NCF-Envirothon to its soil.

We extend our sincere gratitude to our sponsors, Weyerhaeuser, West Fraser, Foothills Forest Products, and Canfor, for their unwavering support through the Forest Resource Improvement Association of Alberta (FRIAA). Their generous contributions enable us to showcase Alberta's environmental richness and provide a global platform for youth to learn about our forests, waters, lands, fish, and wildlife, as well as First Peoples traditional knowledge.

Scheduled for July 20-26th, 2025, at Mount Royal University in Calgary, the 2025 theme, "Roots and Resiliency: Fostering Forest Stewardship in a Canopy of Change," underscores our commitment to nurturing environmental stewardship amidst evolving landscapes. In the spirit of transformative reconciliation, students will learn how traditional knowledge, values and histories should be considered in our approach to the complex environmental issues being faced today.

Alberta Envirothon is driven by a dedicated volunteer board of directors from diverse organizations, united in our mission to advance environmental and natural resource education. Together, we aim to inspire passion, cultivate knowledge, and foster collaboration for a sustainable future.

This event not only celebrates academic excellence but also illuminates natural resource career pathways for the next generation of environmental leaders. Join us as we embark on this transformative journey, empowering youth to become catalysts for positive change and guardians of our planet's precious resources.

About Alberta Envirothon: Alberta Envirothon is a team-based academic environmental education competition for high school students. Incorporating STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) principles, experiential learning and hands-on outdoor field experiences, the Envirothon fosters student learning in the areas of aquatic ecology, forestry, soils and land use, wildlife and current environmental issues. Students are challenged to develop critical thinking skills to create inventive solutions to the complex local and global environmental and natural resource issues facing our world today.

With the Envirothon, students are empowered to educate others, take action in their local communities, pursue higher academic study in environmental disciplines, and to work toward careers in the environment, natural resources and conservation. The winning team has the chance to represent Alberta at the NCF-Envirothon.
