Established in 1997, Alberta’s Envirothon is an annual provincial competition held each spring aiming to increase students' knowledge of environmental science and natural resource management in Alberta. Think "Olympics for the Environment."

Our audience is high school students (grade 9-12) embarking on post-secondary pursuits, and those planning for careers in sciences and resource management.

Up to 13 teams have competed in the past, representing schools and clubs from all over Alberta, Saskatchewan and the Northwest Territories (because SK and NT don't have their own Envirothon programs to compete in, we've allowed them to join us. However, they are ineligible for the Alberta title). Participants have come from large urban centres, remote or rural areas and a First Nations community.

Teams of 5 (or 6 if you are bringing an alternate) are led by a teacher advisor or volunteer adult chaperone and may meet throughout the school year to train. 

 

The winning team earns the opportunity to represent Alberta in the NCF-Envirothon (international competition) with teams from across Canada, the USA, China, and Singapore.
